Frequently Asked Questions If I’m in a shared room, where can I put my bags? For each guest in dorm rooms, we provide a locker underneath the bed. They are fairly large, around 3’x3’x18”. It can easily hold a large checked bag. You can bring your own padlock or buy one at the desk for $5. How much does it cost to each night? It depends on the time of year and room type. Our dorm rooms are $35 - $51, Double Beds in a Mixed Dorm are $60 - $100, Triple rooms are $90 - $151, Two Bed Privates are $80 - $135, and Standard Privates are $80 - $135. How many beds are in the dorm rooms? Each dorm room has 4 - 9 beds. We do not differentiate our dorms by the number of beds, so you can request to be in a smaller dorm, but we cannot guarantee it. What’s the bathroom situation like? While we do not provide ensuite bathrooms, each bathroom is single occupancy. So once you close the door, you have your own toilet, shower, and sink. We have 10 bathrooms ranging in size throughout the hostel. Do I need to be a foreigner to stay? Every guest must currently reside outside of the Bay Area and have proof of onward travel. However, if you are a Bay Area resident, we would be happy to give you recommendations of other places to stay in city. Is a reservation necessary? We recommend that you make a reservation since we do tend to book up, especially in the spring, summer, and early fall. However, you can always just walk in and see if we have space. Is there an age limit to stay at your hostel? To stay in a dorm room, you need to be over 18 years old. If not, you can stay in a private room with a parent or guardian. We do not allow anybody under 18 to stay without one. There is no age limit and we host people of all ages. Our median age is 20 - 30 years old and we definitely do have a younger vibe, but anybody over 18 is welcome. Do I need to bring my own linens? Nope! We provide all of your bedding. We actually ask that you do not bring any personal bedding or camping equipment up to your room. If you have these items, we can store it for free in our luggage storage area until you check out. How can I pay for my stay? We do not take any prepayments unless your group is 5+ people. If you have 5 or more guests you will need to contact our group coordinator at groups@greentortoisesf.com to reserve your booking. You will pay for the full stay when you arrive. We accept cash, Visa, or MasterCard. What time is check-in and check-out? Check-in is officially at 4:00 PM, however if you arrive earlier you can store your bags. We may be able to get you into the room starting at noon, however the bed may not be made up until 4:00 PM You can check-out anytime before 11 AM. We do not offer any late check-outs, however you are welcome to store your luggage in our luggage room and use our hostel facilities until 8:00 PM on the day that you check-out. How many nights can I stay here? We allow guests to stay a maximum of 7 nights. Depending on the time of year, you may extend your stay beyond 7 nights with the approval of a manager. Can I bring my own food? Absolutely! We ask that you consume all food and drinks in our kitchen and common areas instead of your room to help us keep them clean and bugs-free. We have a fully equipped kitchen and guest fridges for you to store any food and drinks. There are pens, markers, and labels in the kitchen to mark your items.

Our North Beach Neighborhood North Beach is a centrally located area of San Francisco sandwiched between Fishermans Wharf and the Financial District. Our Hostel lies in one San Francisco's most historic, diverse and unique neighborhoods, with many one of a kind landmarks within a short walk. 1. Coit Tower Coit Tower is a 210-ft tower offering panoramic views over the city and the bay. and Murals by Diego Rivera 3. Little Italy Here you will find the cities best Italian food, including tasty Cannolis at Stella Pastry and Cafe. 5. The Filbert Steps The Filbert Street steps have a very urban jungle feel with great views. Though steep, should be part of your vistit. 2. Green Tortoise Au Pair & Female Traveler Connection RSVP WEDNESDAY RSVP FRIDAY RSVP Mix and Mingle with other international female travelers & au pairs. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we have a free, vegetarian group dinner for all hostel guests. We have temporarily decided to open this event up on Wednesday and Friday nights to all international female travelers in SF in an effort to connect solo female travelers with one another. Join us in our safe, fun international living room space. Enjoy a home-cooked vegetarian meal in our San Francisco hostel where you can connect with like-minded, international female travelers & au pairs.
